Hugh Smith 95, Gettysburg Vet, Passes at Home

Funeral services for Hugh Smith, 95 years old, Civil War veteran and member of the Union forces at the Battle of Gettysburg, who died Friday at his home, 5140 Wildwood Lane, after a short illness, will be held tomorrow at 2 o’clock at the Brighton Presbyterian Church, 51st Avenue South and Brighton Street.

Cremation will be in charge of the Columbia Mortuary.

He was the father of Mrs. McLain W. Davis, retired pastor of the Brighton Presbyterian Church.

Mr. Smith, a native of Ayrshire, Scotland, came to this country when he was 14 years old. He was a lieutenant in the 33rd Massachusetts Infantry during the Civil War. He made his home here the past twelve years. He was a retired merchant.

Mr. Smith was a member of the John F. Miller Post, Grand Army of the Republic, and of the Brighton Presbyterian Church.

Other survivors are two sons, Elmer T. Smith, Bellingham, and Carlyle Smith, Caldwell, Idaho; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
