Rev. Arne Kolden Taken by Death
The Rev. Arne Kolden, 77, died at 3322 Broadway this morning. He had been in the Lutheran ministry since 1904.
Born at Adams, Wis., July 25, 1873, he was educated at Augsbury Seminary, Minneapolis, Minn., and was ordained to the ministry in 1904. He came West immediately, taking up home mission work at Spokane. There he organized Bethany Congregation of the Lutheran Free Church.
From Spokane the Rev. Mr. Kolden went to Alberta, Canada, where he engaged in home mission work at Eagle Hill. In 1911 he organized the Rosedale Congregation in Minneapolis and in 1913 he returned to the West Coast to serve the Lakewood, Silvana and East Stanwood parish. After several years there he began devoting his time to interim pastor work at Everett, Poulsbo and Silverton and Astoria, Ore. He also engaged in Sunday school and young people’s work in East Stanwood and vicinity before retiring because of failing health in 1945.
In 1904 the Rev. Mr. Kolden was married to Ida Hanson of Blanchardsville, Wis., who survives him. He also is survived by a sister, Mrs. Anna Ackerman of Hesperia, Mich.
Funeral services will be Monday at 1 p.m. at the Calvary Lutheran Church, the Rev. Arthur Reesnes, assisted by Jens Halvorson and the Rev. Martin Bjornson, officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery under the direction of the Solie Funeral Home.
